In one of the most significant bloodstock acquisitions in recent history, Coolmore Australia secured the high-profile stallion Super Seth in a blockbuster deal to stand at Jerrys Plains in the Hunter Valley. Super Seth represents an exciting addition to Coolmore’s Australian roster, standing for the first time on Australian soil at an introductory fee of $137,500 (inc GST).
Tom Magnier and the Magnier family identified Super Seth as a transformative talent capable of leaving an indelible mark on the Australian thoroughbred industry. His arrival at Coolmore comes off the back of a historic start to his stallion career in New Zealand, cementing him as one of the most dynamic young sires in the Southern Hemisphere.
The Making of a Champion: Racetrack Success
Before his ascent as a sire, Super Seth was an elite racehorse trained by Anthony Freedman. Purchased as a yearling by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $280,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the Arrowfield Stud draft, he showed breathtaking acceleration from day one.
He made an immediate impact as a two-year-old, winning his first three starts, including a dominant six-length victory on debut. However, his crowning moment came during his three-year-old spring campaign in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m). Displaying an explosive, world-class turn of foot, Super Seth produced a devastating late surge to chase down the previously unbeaten Alligator Blood right on the post.
He capped off his career with victories in the Group 3 HDF McNeil Stakes and Group 3 Manfred Stakes, along with a valiant second-place finish against older horses in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes. Over 12 starts, he accrued 5 wins and over $1.6 million in prize money.
From the North Island of New Zealand to the Australian Shores
Before making his headline move to Coolmore, Super Seth stood at the world-renowned Waikato Stud in Matamata, New Zealand. Originally retired to stud as the first Caulfield Guineas winner to stand in New Zealand in three decades, expectations were sky-high. He lived up to that billing and more, launching a career that quickly rewrote the record books.
Super Seth was crowned New Zealand Champion First Season Sire for the 2023/24 season and followed it up by claiming the New Zealand Champion Second Season Sire title for 2024/25. In doing so, he achieved something truly extraordinary: he became the only New Zealand-based stallion in history to sire four Group 1 winners in his first two racing seasons.
His rapid rise drew early parallels to legendary sires like Danehill and Savabeel, prompting Coolmore to bring the star stallion back to Australia to meet massive commercial demand.

On his dam’s side, Super Seth is out of Salutations, a daughter of the legendary Champion Sire and broodmare sire Redoute’s Choice. His granddam, Toast of the Coast (by Rory's Jester), was a Group 2 winner, giving Super Seth a deep, black-type Australian speed family. He is also a half-brother to the Group 2-winning sprinter Wild Planet.
Super Seth’s pedigree and his early stud output highlights several dominant, high-performing nicks. Crossing Super Seth over mares carrying O'Reilly (or Last Tycoon line mares) has produced phenomenal results. This nick has yielded Group 1 Australian Guineas winner Feroce, Group 3 winner Kilman, and stakes winner Super Photon. The Danehill/Redoute's Choice speed in Super Seth combines brilliantly with the rhythm and toughness of O'Reilly.
Super Seth over Savabeel (and broader Sir Tristram/Zabeel lines) is another powerhouse cross. This nick produced New Zealand Champion 2YO La Dorada (out of a Savabeel mare) and Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Maison Louis (granddam by Zabeel). Because Super Seth carries Redoute's Choice on his dam side rather than his sire line, he provides a clean, highly effective outcross for mares from the Danehill, Exceed And Excel, and Oasis Dream branches—as seen in Group 1 Randwick Guineas winner Linebacker (out of an Oasis Dream mare).
