Inglis Easter Yearling Sale Review

Every year, the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale delivers a masterclass in bloodstock, showcasing elite pedigrees that often go on to become superstars of the turf. The 2026 edition was no exception, boasting an impressive 26 lots that broke the million-dollar barrier and a gross total surpassing $144 million.

The highest-selling Lot was Lot 26, a striking colt by Extreme Choice out of the multiple Group 2 winner Pretty Brazen. Bred by Lime Country Thoroughbreds, the yearling sparked a bidding war that ended with Coolmore’s Tom Magnier securing him for a staggering AU$3 million.

After purchasing the $3 million colt, Tom Magnier spoke to Inglis’ Jemma Cutting and revealed that it didn’t take a lot of thinking to purchase this quality colt.

“It wasn’t an Einstein job”, Mr Magnier said.

“He’s a very good mover, loads of quality and a lovely light step on him.”

The Extreme Choice yearlings are hot property right now, seven of his 10 yearlings sold for over $1 million. The reason why everyone is willing to pay ‘an arm and a leg’ for an Extreme Choice yearling is because one in every 25 yearlings he produces go one to become a Group 1 winner.

Henry Field, the founder of Newgate Farm where Extreme Choice resides, noted that the stallion’s impact reaches far beyond the racetrack.

“He’s (Extreme Choice) changed people lives”, Mr Field said to Inglis’ Jemma Cutting.

“Steve O’Connor who use to work for me, one of my first employees, he ended up selling a colt for $2 million today. That made me emotionally [and] very proud.

“It really is special to see so many people to have done so well out of this special stallion, it’s something I’ll cherish.

At just 12 years old, Field believes the best is yet to come for the star sire.

The second highest Lot sold was the full brother to Group 2 winner Too Darn Lizzie. The Too Darn Hot (GB) x Enbihaar colt was purchased for $2.2 million by Watership Down and McKeever Bloodstock, who also owned Too Darn Lizzie. Simon Marsh, general manager of Watership Down, proclaimed “we had to have this horse”. The colt will be trained by the legendary Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, just as his full-sister was.

Other notable purchases included Lot 451, who is a full relation to multiple Group 1 winner and recent stallion Switzerland. The Snitzel x Ms Bad Behaviour (CAN) colt was sold to Coolmore and James Harron Bloodstock for $2 million. Another full relation to a multiple Group 1 winner was the Snitzel x Laguna Azzura (JPN) filly. This filly is the full relation to Lazzura and was purchased for $1.8 million by Equine Holdings.

With such immense quality yearlings sold during the Inglis Easter Sales, racing fans will certainly be keeping a close eye on the track when these blue-blooded yearlings make their competitive debuts.
